Title: Some Call it Evolution
Date: 2002
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 51cm x 38cm
Edition: 99
This is an image inspired by the on going controversy of AI as well as Sci Fi novels like I Robot by Isaac Asimov.
The baby is derived from an original drawing that I did for a medical Illustration course that I was enrolled in, at the Rochester Institute of Technology, NY. I changed the brain color and added the metallic umbilical cord to suggest the child was created in a laboratory.
The text in the background reads:
Some call it evolution
others call it GOD
William Herbert Carruth 1908
The Text in the top right corner, is a quote by the evolutionary biologist, Richard Dawkins, and reads:
We are survival machines - robot vehicles blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes.
