Title: Why Go Elsewhere to be Cheated.
Date: 2002
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 61cm x 46cm
Edition: 99

This is one of three images that I did based on humourous signs and mannequins. I took the reference photograph, while vacationing in Montreal, Canada and added the two signs, which were not part of the shop window display. I wanted to create a fictitious, yet plausible, environment.

The mannequins, however, have not been altered and really were displayed with no clothes. A sign on another window said that the shop was temporarily closed. I added the bottom signs, as a parody about censor bars often used to cover up genitalia in films.

The text on the top sign, is from an electrical store and reads:
Why go elsewhere
to be cheated
when you can come
in here.

The two bottom censor bars read from left to right. Ears pierced while you wait and Bargain Basement, upstairs. The first is from a Jewellery store and the second from a department store.
