This image is a reaction to the destruction of the New York World Trade Center, on September 11, 2001. I visited ground zero a few weeks after the disaster and saw this bicycle still chained to the post, so assumed the rider was just unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time.
After the attack, President George W. Bush said, We will rebuild to comfort a grieving nation. I decided to create an artwork that incorporate this quote with another, by the psychiatrist and political philosopher, Frantz Fanon, who said; For violence, like Achilles' lance, can heal the wounds it has inflicted.
