Title: Koi to Iseki (Carp & Hidden Treasure)
Date: 1999
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 38cm x 25cm
Edition: 99
This image was inspired by three items, I saw during my travels through Japan. Stone lanterns, originally used as votive lights, that are dispersed throughout the land, Koi fish, which represent strength, courage, patience, and success and finally, what appeared to be a Roman medallion that was in a pond.
Therefore, this artwork is a combination of the three above elements. The Roman medallion being the anomaly within the Japanese image.
But in order to see the medallion, the artwork must be turned upside down. Thus the title.
