Title: Tabi (Socks)
Date: 1993
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 21cm x 30cm
Edition: 99
This is one of four images I did as part of a series, depicting Japanese garments within the pages of a book.
In this artwork, the text chronicles the tabi, a style of footwear with a divided toe. Tabi are usually worn with traditional thonged footwear, such as the geta or zōri.
The series is meant to be an ironic statement about the Japanese shunga or erotic imagery. It is under the guise of a book, meant to promote fashion, but is really expounding eroticism.
