Title: Self Portrait, Matsuri, Sasazuka
Date: 1994
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 27cm x 38cm
Edition: 99
This is the one of twelve images I created during my time in Tokyo.
The Matsuri festival is held to show thanks to the Shinto gods for nature, life and for community growth. Symbolic floats are created and paraded through the streets, often carried on men’s shoulders. In this self portrait, my friend, Shinsuke, is one of the front temple bearers. I took his place afterwards.
I have used a stippling method, of small dots, applied by a felt pen, to create the original drawing that is used for the giclée process.
