Title: Lantern, Nikko
Date: 1994
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 38cm x 27cm
Edition: 99
This is the one of twelve images I created during my travels through Japan.
These traditional lanterns (chōchin), found in many entrances to gardens, weren't meant to provide functional light for pathways. They were actually designed to add ambiance and importance to the tea ceremonies.
I have used a stippling method, of small dots, applied by a felt pen, to create the original drawing that is used for the giclée process.
