Title: Kumamoto Castle
Date: 1994
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 38cm x 27cm
Edition: 99
This is the one of twelve images I created during my travels through Japan.
Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the three premier castles in Japan, along with Himeji Castle and Matsumoto Castle. I luckily visited it in 1992, because in 2016, it was devastated by an earthquake. Rebuilding has commenced and should be finished by 2036.
After exploring the beautiful architecture of the castle, it was odd that I picked a tile Finial, desecrated in Pigeon droppings, as my memory of this experience.
I have used a stippling method, of small dots, applied by a felt pen, to create the original drawing that is used for the giclée process.
