Title: Chiran, Kagoshima
Date: 1994
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 38cm x 27cm
Edition: 99
This is the one of twelve images I created during my travels through Japan.
Chiran has a preserved samurai district with houses and gardens that date back about 250 years. So, in this image, I was interested in the juxtaposition of the stone wall, foliage and old pottery that I found in one particular site.
In 2007, the towns of Chiran, Ei and Kawanabe merged to form the new city of Minamikyūshū.
I have used a stippling method, of small dots, applied by a felt pen, to create the original drawing that is used for the giclée process.
