Title: Dazaifu Nights
Date: 1998
Medium: Giclée on Paper
Size: 46cm x 32cm
Edition: 99
Dazaifu is a city in Fukuoka. I stayed there for about a week, where I traded food for entertaining patrons in a bar.
It was established in the late 7th century and served as the administrative center of the entire island of Kyushu for over 500 years. It housed what was once the chief Buddhist temple.
The image is part of my Japlish series, and is also meant to depict the beautiful nights I enjoyed, during my stay, as there were few lights to obscure the stars.
The text reads:
we can see many stars in the
clear night sky
some are twinkling like
diamonds
and others are gleaming
faintly
there goes a shooting star
stars are still telling us
so romantic stories
listen to their fantastic
stories with your heart
