This image is one of a series that I created that examines the Chinese Mythological coupling of specific flora and fauna.
In Chinese mythology, the magpie was regarded as a herald of good news, and the first Chinese character in the name ‘magpie’ means ‘happiness’. So, if there are two magpies, then the meaning becomes ‘double happiness’.
Plum blossoms indicate happiness, luck, longevity, success, and peace, because they have five petals. Its other name, in Chinese tradition, is the ‘Five Blessing Flower’.
