This image is one of a series that I created that examines the Chinese Mythological coupling of specific flora and fauna.

Mandarin ducks were called ‘birds of love’ in ancient China. They pair for life. They fly together, swim together and sleep with their necks crossed. If one partner dies, the other will remain single for life.

In Chinese mythology, when Mandarin ducks and Lotus are depicted together, it signifies continuing harmony and affection between the couple.
